Welcome to your first step in being a bigger part of the security industry! With thousands of members across the globe, ALOA can help you further your career through membership, education and camaraderie.
Your first step in joining ALOA is to fill out a membership application. You can do so online or by downloading and submitting the appropriate hard-copy applications.
Once we receive your application, it will take one to three weeks to process. After your application has been verified, your name and location will be published in the next issue of Keynotes — the official magazine of ALOA — for review by ALOA members.
Upon final clearance (90 days after acceptance, unless you are on a one-year probationary period) you will receive a welcome packet, including a permanent membership card and certificate. At that time, you may log into the members-only section of ALOA.org and fill out the form to be listed on FindALocksmith.com. This is a good time to make sure the ALOA logo is evident on your shop window, service vehicles and business cards, as these customers are expecting to contact an ALOA member.

To apply for Active Membership in ALOA, you will need the following:
2+ years of experience in the locksmith/security industry
A character reference from two people in the locksmith/security industry
A character reference from a local locksmith association or locksmith supplier
Proof of employment in the locksmith/security industry
Current dues and application fees are listed on the online application and the downloadable applications. Please note that prospective members undergo a background check as part of the application process.
ALOA has several membership types and add-on options to join one or more of our divisions. For questions about any of these membership types, please contact membership@aloa.org.
Active Membership is available to those who have been in the locksmith/security industry for two or more years and can provide two industry character references, proof of employment in the industry and have a membership sponsor or belong to a locksmith association.
This membership type is for those who have not yet been in the industry for two years but can provide two industry character references and proof of employment in the industry. The probationary period is generally one year. The probationary period may be 1-3 years before becoming an active member, based on your background.
This category is for persons actively engaged in or recently graduated from an ALOA-recognized training program to learn the locksmith/access control industry. The applicant must provide a copy of the certificate of completion or proof of training if still engaged in training. There is no sponsorship required for Apprentice Membership. Applicants will go through a background check, and membership is good for 2 years. After that, membership must be converted to Active Membership or terminated.
This is for those who work in the locksmith/access control industry in related but non-locksmith roles and cannot qualify for any other class of membership.
Associate Members are companies actively engaged in the security industries by manufacturing or distributing products, or providing services such as insurance. Associate Members get discounts on booths at ALOA, SAFETECH and IAAL conventions, plus they get a listing in Keynotes each month, among other benefits. An application is available here.
For locksmith companies with at least one member contact and several employees. Take advantage of the Company Membership option for discounted rates per person after paying a company fee. For assistance with this process, please contact membership@aloa.org.
